ARAB FILM STUDIO ALUMNI TAKE COVETED AWARDS AT ZUMEFF 2016

Fayssal Bin Sahli and Waleed Al Madani scoop Upcoming Filmmaker and Best Documentary prizes

The 7th Zayed University Middle East Film Festival took place in Abu Dhabi on May 1-2 to celebrate the best student films from around the region.

The festival saw several film screenings from past Arab Film Studio students including Skin by Farah Diab, Made of Clay by Fayssal bin Shali and The Sheikh of Mussafah by Waleed Al Madani, with the latter two scooping coveted awards at the closing ceremony.

Waleed Al Madani was awarded ‘Best Documentary’ for The Sheikh of Mussafah, an exploration of a man’s unstable relationship with a father who raised him amidst his mechanic shop and tow truck business.

Meanwhile Fayssal bin Shali took the brand-new TwoFour54 Emerging Filmmaker Award, designed to commend the most promising filmmaker from the festival. Fayssal’s story ‘Made of Clay’ surrounds a passionate young stop-motion artist named Ahmed, who wants to pursue his dream but finds it difficult to do so because of his father’s views on his art.

Both Waleed and Fayssal took part in the Arab Film Studio Documentary program in 2015.
