Allegra lives in Dubai with her husband, where she volunteers for ‘Handheld Stories’, a media-based educational initiative. Her work with the organization has seen her travel to Palestine and Mumbai to teach children how to make short documentaries about their lives. It was this recent experience in Mumbai that has inspired her to try filmmaking herself.
A fan of solid, well-paced stories with inventive humor, Allegra notes “The Big Lebowski”, “Rushmore” and “American Beauty” as favorites. She also finds good cinematography mesmerizing to the point of being more connected to the world on screen, than the real one.
“Through Arab Film Studio I have an opportunity to pursue something I’ve always wanted to do. When I was in my 20’s, outside of film school, access to film and editing was restrictive due to the expense. AFS really fulfills a dream I thought I had to live without when I chose a more traditional education.”
