Majid Al Ansari
United Arab Emirates
Emirati director Majid Al Ansari, began his film career as an intern at Image Nation in 2008. This year (2015), Majid will be releasing his debut feature film, ‘Zinzana’ produced by Image Nation.
Majid said, ‘I had no formal film training so I like to believe that I went to the ‘school of Image Nation’. They taught me everything I know and I got some real hands-on experience that I wouldn’t have received anywhere else. I’ve learnt about all aspects of film production, from directing, to set design to financing and marketing – so I know exactly how much work it takes to create a film from start to finish.’
During his internship, Majid was sent to Hollywood, to work with Image Nation partners, Participant Media. There he learnt the ropes on an international film set and worked on the co-production, Contagion.
For those looking to get there start in film, Majid says, ‘Get stuck in! Do anything they ask you to and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. When is started out, I would do everything, including driving people to and from sets. Be on the lookout for opportunities and grab as many as you can. We are lucky enough to have a lot of amazing workshops, internships and film competitions in the region which can allow you to make your mark. Places like Image Nation and twofour54 are always on the lookout for interns who can work with international partners and run annual film competitions, like AFS, where you can work with some of the leading filmmakers in the world to produce a short film which can then be screened at film festivals around the world. Its great way to get your name out there.’
