Arab Film Studio is a short film competition that takes finalists on a six-month filmmaking journey that mirrors the real process of developing and producing a documentary film. You won’t just learn everything it takes to make a movie, you’ll actually make one!
Our multi-disciplinary program consist on several workshops, online tutorials, feedbacks and assignments. You will gain hands-on experience working with industry experts who will get you ready to produce your very own short film.
How to enter:
You do need some filmmaking experience to take part so we would like to see some of your previous films, such as school or amateur films. Knowledge of at least one editing software is a must.
Every AFS finalist is a winner, gaining priceless filmmaking experience and the opportunity to make a short film up to ten-minutes in length aimed to be screened theatrically in the national and international market. One finalist will then go on to win a further prize: an internship with the Image Nation Documentary Department at the end of the program.

Storytelling and Concept Development Workshop – 1st June to 8th June 2017. 8-day full time training, morning to evening.
Research Part I – from 9th June till 1st July 2017. Online/ weekly meetings.
Filmmaking Workshop Part I – from 2nd till 8th July 2017. 7-day full time training, morning to evening.
Research Part II - from 9th July till 2nd September 2017. Online/ weekly meetings.
Filmmaking Workshop Part II – from 3rd to 9th September. 7-day full time training, morning to evening.
Preproduction – from 10th of September to 11th October. Online/ weekly meetings.
Shooting - from 12th October to 2nd November for a maximum of 3 days (consecutive or non-consecutive)
Editing Workshop - from 5th to 11th November. 7-day full time training, morning to evening.
Post production from 12th November to completion of films – Online/ weekly sessions with editors.
